Betting on Weird and Wonderful Sports
Without any doubt, betting has become one of the favorite indoor activities among people around the globe. The new online bookmakers are trying to meet the requirements and expectations of their customers. That is the reason why most of them offer incredibly fair odds and a wide range of bonuses and promotions. The purpose of these rewards is to make the bettor feel comfortable while playing.
Without any doubt, football, basketball, and tennis are the most popular sports among bettors. People like to bet on sports they actively follow. However, doing the same thing over and over again can sometimes be monotonous. That is the reason why new UK betting sites have decided to expand their offer with some unusual sports.
In this article, we would like to highlight the most unusual sports people can bet on in 2021.
But, Where Can I Find The Best New Betting Sites with Unusual Offers?
Believe it or not, finding an online bookmaker where you can bet on unusual sports is not difficult at all. More precisely, they have become part of the new online betting trends. Fortunately, the most modern betting sites are following those trends and try to remain competitive that way.
You can always find new betting sites on comparison websites. After you read the analyses, it is recommendable that you read the reviews of previous customers and get decent social proof.
Anyway, after we made everything clear, let’s move to the main point. Let’s find out together the weird and beautiful sports you can bet on.
Arm Wrestling
Travis Bagent, Devon Laratt, Paul Talbott, and other most successful arm wrestlers are those that make this sport so interesting. The participants are separated into different categories like super heavyweight, heavyweight, and others. You, as a bettor, can try to predict who is going to win.
People like this sport for a single reason – uncertainty. Things in arm wrestling change too quickly and you can’t know who is the winner until the very end. If you are looking for an adrenaline rush, this may be a good option.
Bandy
Many people think that bandy is the same as hockey. Indeed, there are skates, sticks, helmets, and sheets of ice. However, these two sports have certain differences. Believe it or not, bandy is some sort of football that participants play on the ice.
The rules of the game are pretty easy to understand. Each team on the ice has 11 players. The size of the entire playing surface is precisely 110 yards. It is worth mentioning that the goal is 11 feet wide and 7 feet high which makes this sport similar to football.
Just like with football, you can try out to predict which team will win, how many goals each team will score, which players will score, etc.
Mountain Unicycling
No, we are not talking about mountain cycling. Just as you read, we are talking about riding a bike that contains only one wheel. Things become more interesting when you know that these races are in the mountains.
If you are an adventurous type of person, then this sport is going to be ideal for you. The tournaments are organized across the world, in the UK, Switzerland, USA, and Canada. You can try out to predict who will win the race or guess which riders will end up in the first three places. Doesn’t this seem entertaining?
Rock, Paper Scissors
Some people will hardly believe that “rock, paper, and scissors” is actually a sport. However, believe it or not, “rock, paper, and scissors” tournaments are hosted around the globe. There are also leagues in Canada, UK, and the USA where participants try to become champions. That is the reason why new online bookmakers will allow you to test your betting skills at this sport as well.
Generally speaking, the rules and regulations are different from one championship to another. However, they all end up in the same way – one person can only become a champion. You, as a bettor, can try to predict who is going to win a championship.
Quidditch
If you are a big fan of Harry Potter, then you have definitely heard about Quidditch. However, there is one good news that we have for you – quidditch is no longer a fictional game. New betting sites UK will allow you to bet on this sport. There is even a league in the US that exists for more than a decade. You can wager on the outcome of each game or simply try to predict who will be the champion of the league.
eSports
Not adding eSports to this list would be a big mistake. Many people are tired of betting on traditional sports. That is probably the reason why eSports wagering has become one of the new online betting trends.
In short terms, eSports or electric sports connect video gamers from all over the world. In all parts of the world, there are certain tournaments where people can show their gaming skills. Also, it is important to mention that eSports may become a part of Olympic events. However, the Olympic Committee is still looking for the best way to implement that decision.
Final Thought
All these sports are unusual, and many people may consider them weird. However, they are also an amazing opportunity to get out of the box and try out your betting skills in some different way. We truly hope that Zorb football will soon become part of this list and that new UK betting sites will recognize it as a good betting opportunity.
Have you ever watched a group of people playing football or soccer with giant balls around them, leaving only the legs exposed for play? This is called Zorb football and it was invented as a joke by two people in Norway in 2011. The founders are Henrik Elvestad and Johan Golden. Although it started out as a joke, a video went viral in April 2014 in Algund, Italy and it “set the internet on fire.” According to Goole traffic volume, there was a massive spike in the search for this sport from barely no searches to millions of searches within the period of a week. As a result, it gained in popularity and more and more people wanted to play this new interesting, fun, and exciting sport.
The craze hit North America, too, but there were several problems. Since the sport was so new, it would become difficult for insurers to underwrite the sport and ensure a proper form of insurance should injuries arise. There were also no industry standards on what constituted a proper bumper ball. As a result of this, in 2014, the National Association of Bubble Soccer (NABS) was established with the goal of resolving these issues. It dealt with problems of the lack of formal game rules, quality equipment, and willing insurers to ensure that the players were adequately insured to play the sport. The NABS has accordingly re-written
Unlike many other niche sport games like
About two years ago, zorb suits were actually used in professional football training. You might have heard about the club that employed them – it was one F. C. Barcelona. You know, the club Messi plays for? There were
There are still some serious steps that remain to be taken. Once a common framework of rules is adopted, then we might just see the emergence of the first professional Z-football teams. Once this happens, then the game will surely be added to the growing betting portfolios of the online bookmakers. As with most sports, the initial betting will be aimed at guessing the winner of a match, with handicaps being a natural modifier that could be added.
The more conventional name for ZF (still haven’t seen this abbreviation often, but I quite like to use it together with Z-football) is actually bubble soccer. It doesn’t pack the same punch, but gives you a more accurate representation of what you should expect. ZF is played with the same overall rules as football. You get a regular football and you have to put it in the opposing team’s net. The only difference is that you must do so while wearing an inflatable bubble similar to the eponymous zorbs.
Zorb football is not that extreme – in fact, it is considered safer in terms of regular injuries than regular football. All the players are wearing zorbs over their upper bodies, which has the added effect of making it much harder to tackle the player of the ball. In some regards, the defensive technique is much more similar to American footie – you bump the opposition as hard as you can, hoping that they would topple and flop around like very confused turtles! Of course, the zorb doubles as a great protection, and getting knocked down is actually quite fun – in most cases. The most important rule of the game is not to bash into players that are already on the ground, especially if they have partially gotten out of their harnesses – this is the true moment when injuries can occur.
The sport is played both on indoor and outdoor pitches, and I’ve seen fun mini-matches with 3 people per side and more serious clashes with 14 players and defined roles and tactics. If you decide to forgo the ball altogether, there are other interesting variations like ‘last man standing’ or ‘zorb ring’, but I won’t be focusing on those here.
Jokes aside, ZF is currently establishing itself as a fun recreational activity that can be played both for relaxation and in a more serious manner. As you can imagine, the speed and technique are much more limited than in regular football, which makes physicality and balance very important. The more I think of it, the more I go back to the earlier comparison with a cross between European and American football.
Currently there are a number of innovative sports that are gaining prominence, and some of them are sure to break out and become mainstream in the coming years. Betting on them is still rather hard, as most of the leading online bookmakers don’t pay attention to leagues with less TV coverage. However, just a few years ago it would have been hard to imagine that you would be able to bet on Starcraft multiplayer matches between players from all over the world. If eSports can do it, then other games will surely be able to get their big breakthrough too.
With that in mind, I will be gearing this blog towards the future. Let’s start learning about the new generation of sports that are slowly starting the capture the hearts of people and watch them as they grow! Zorb football is my personal favourite, as I simply love playing it with the kids – even though opportunities are a little hard to come by where I live. I am always open to new things though, so I will be sharing everything I know about some other obscure sports – if you have any suggestions and personal favourites, you are more than welcome to leave a comment or three!
